How to Sell Tickets for a Muslim Conference (Without Losing Money to Fees)
Conferences are where ticketing mistakes get expensive: a hundred tickets at $30 is one thing, five hundred at $75 with sponsors, vendors and a floor plan is another. This is the sequence that works, learned from events like NAIMA CON and the Niya Summit on Ummah Unite.
1. Price tiers before you price tickets
Decide the tiers first: General, Youth/Student, Child, and a Table for 8-10 if families or organizations buy together. Then set an early-bird window (two to three weeks) and a hard deadline. Platforms that enforce deadlines server-side matter here - a "deadline" that is only a line of text will keep selling after it passes.
2. Brothers, sisters, family sections as ticket options
If your hall has separate seating, sell it that way: "Brothers section", "Sisters section", "Family section" as ticket types with their own capacity. Attendees self-select, your door team scans the right list, and nobody argues about chairs. On Ummah Unite this is a native ticket option, not a workaround.
3. Sell the floor, not just the seats
Vendor booths, sponsor tables and bazaar spots are revenue most conference platforms ignore. Draw them on your floor plan, give each a price and description, and let vendors pick a spot like an airline seat - with a timed hold so two vendors cannot buy the same table. Booth revenue at a 300-person conference often exceeds ticket revenue.
4. Fees: who pays, and how much
Read the fee page, not the homepage. Eventbrite charges the organizer 3.7% + $1.79 per paid ticket plus processing (US). Ummah Unite charges $1 + 2.5%, shown to the attendee at checkout, so face value reaches you. On 500 tickets at $50, that difference is roughly $1,800 - $2,500 kept by your organization.
5. Check-in that survives a rush
QR scanning from any phone, with refunded and cancelled tickets rejected at the door, and a per-ticket-type list for the sisters' entrance. Test it a week before with three staff and thirty tickets. If your platform cannot show you who checked in by ticket type, you will not know your seating balance until people are standing.
Questions
How early should conference tickets go on sale?
Six to eight weeks out, with an early-bird tier for the first two to three weeks. Sales cluster in the final ten days regardless; early-bird is how you fund deposits.
Can I sell sponsor tables and vendor booths on the same page as tickets?
Yes. On Ummah Unite tickets, booths and donations are one checkout; booths are picked from the floor plan you draw.
